Before I went to the birds

(the creative process that led to this folly)

I had worked with polymer clay many years ago and recognized its vast applications.  Loving insects, I thought recreating them in polymer could be intriguing .  Why not start with snails?  It worked! I made the shells from polymer then created the body (also from polymer) along with some attitude.  Somehow as with everything I do... human form worked into the mix.
I began exploring the re-creation of snails with polymer clay.  The black and white snail is a replica of an actual exotic snail.  Once I accomplished accuracy, I got creative with the shells.  It's amazing how versatile the snails became!
When I felt I had exhausted the snail theme, I moved to persons and odd events in their lives.
This one on the bicycle is one of my first human forms and seems to be a favorite of many.  She's made completely of polymer sitting on a wire bicycle.
After taking a class from an excellent, experienced polymer figure-maker (Kate Church), I incorporated  textiles with the polymer and no longer made people...I've moved to animals.
These are ring dishes.  To date I've made 105 of them. They"re such fun to make that I just couldn't stop.  They are 3 1/2" X ~1" tall, all with little feet to keep them from wobbling.  Also made of polymer clay.   Each design is unique and the colors are painstakingly mixed by me for each palette.
