Whimsical creatures created from polymer clay and mixed media.
My recent fantasy is a combination of birds and animals with human features. They are meant to be silly, fun, playful, nonsensical...really, 'seen any birds lately with nostrils and lips let alone shoes?

"MY NEW FACE"
Waiting too long for the face lift. Notice the stretched face with the clearly ancient body. As with most of us, she dresses from her better (younger...much younger) years.

ORNAMENTS and how I make a dog face.
|
I totally enjoy creating heads for ornaments, dogs are my favorite. As the photos show, I start with a ball of clay mixed to the right base color. I manipulate and sculpt that ball of clay until I get the general face expression I'm looking for. Then color is added using brushes and various powdered paints. To this point I have invested apx 2 1/2 hrs. It's now ready for curing (in a designated oven) at 265 degrees for 45 minutes. Next I use more clay for the hats, collars, accessories and recurred for 35 minutes. The final process is to spray with a color stabilizer, applying "fur" where applicable, and bend and hammer the wire for a graceful hang where ever YOU might want to display "him." Total time to make a dog ornament is 1 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours...pure pleasure for me!
